Smile Makeover Options for Tooth Gaps

While a lot of people wear tooth gaps with pride, including celebrities like Madonna, Eddie Murphy and Lauren Hutton, for others this is not what they want and they are looking for smile makeover options. In fact, some people have such a wide gap between their two front teeth that they feel extremely self-conscious when smiling. If you are one of those people, find out below what your smile makeover options are.

Smile makeover options to fill the gap

Fortunately, people with gaps between their teeth have several smile makeover options that work incredibly well.

1. Braces

Braces are the most obvious solution. For this, patients have two primary choices: conventional braces and Invisalign. Because standard braces are more affordable, many people go this route. Although commonly worn by teenagers, they also correct tooth gaps in adults. By slowly tightening the wires connected to brackets, braces pull teeth together, eliminating the unwanted gap.

For people who do not want a mouth full of metal, especially adults and business professionals, they can go with the Invisalign option. For this smile makeover, the patient wears clear plastic orthodontics that pulls teeth closer together just like braces. However, a huge advantage is that this method works faster than conventional braces.

2. Retainers

Retainers are another great option for a smile makeover. These work much like braces in that they apply pressure on the teeth, forcing them together. Typically, people with retainers wear them 24/7. The nice thing about this option is that it yields positive results. However, as a less-invasive orthodontic, it takes longer to reposition the teeth.

When it comes to retainers, there are two things to keep in mind. First, they do not work for fixing gaps on every patient. For that reason, people interested in correcting this problem using retainers would need to consult with a dentist to see if they qualify. Second, some people have to wear retainers on and off for years to prevent the teeth from drifting out of place.

3. Dental implants

Another smile makeover used by dentists to correct gaps in teeth comes in the way of dental implants. Depending on the patient, the dentist would recommend a fixed or removable tooth. Either way, this entails implanting a replacement tooth into the bone or gum. Sometimes, a dental implant involves an attachment to the surrounding teeth.

With a high rate of success and providing long-term benefits, dental implants are a great way to correct tooth gaps. If someone has a missing tooth, that extra space could allow the front teeth to spread apart. Therefore, the dentist could implant a replacement in the void area. Now filled, the implant would help push the front teeth back into the correct position.

4. Composite bonding

For less significant tooth gaps, a dentist might suggest composite bonding. With this, the dentist applies a resin to the interior portion of the teeth involved. What this does is fill the space, making the gap disappear. One reason so many people go with this smile makeover option is that it often makes their teeth look fantastic. In addition to filling gaps, composite bonding works great for fixing fractured and chipped teeth.

5. Veneers

Similar to crowns, porcelain veneers help fill the gaps between teeth. For this, the dentist places a thin layer of porcelain directly on the tooth’s surface. Veneers give the illusion of someone having perfectly white and gapless teeth.

Smile with pride

Instead of feeling embarrassed by the gap in your teeth, you can do something about it. Talk to your dentist about the different smile makeover options and turn your small grin into something huge.
