What is a CEREC Crown and Why Choose It?

CEREC is made using a specialized machine that produces dental crowns in just a matter of minutes. This in-house crown manufacturing option is very convenient for patients who are in need of one or more dental crowns and find it hard to make the time to wait for lab-made crowns. Up until recent years, when someone needed a crown placed over one or more of their teeth, it was necessary to have the crowns made in an outside dental lab. Because it takes about two weeks to get a crown back from a dental lab, the patient would need to wear a temporary crown until the permanent crown was finished and sent back to the dental office.

How does a CEREC crown work?

A dentist will first need to prepare the tooth for placement of the CEREC crown, which mostly involves shaping the tooth so that it can properly support the crown. They will then take a 3D image of the tooth, which is sent to the CEREC machine so the dentist can look at the image and make any necessary adjustments to the image. Once the crown design is finalized and approved, the machine will then begin to create the crown. The dentist will then polish and color match the new crown so that it resembles the rest of the patient's teeth, making it hard to see the difference between the crown and the rest of the teeth. Upon dentist and patient approval, the crown will then be cemented into its permanent place.

Why choose CEREC crowns?

CEREC crowns are a great solution for many dental patients, especially nowadays, as they offer a convenient and time-efficient way for just about anyone to get the crown treatment they need to fix one or more of their teeth. The entire CEREC process is more convenient than waiting for lab-made crowns, as it allows patients to be fitted for a crown and have it placed in their mouth all in just one day, making it a great choice for those with very busy schedules. With CEREC crowns, there is also no need to bite down on putty for several minutes to get an impression of the tooth needing the crown, since CEREC instead uses a 3D image of the tooth.

Ready to get your CEREC crown?

Your teeth are meant to last you your entire lifetime, but even if we try, we often cannot prevent all potential traumas or infection. If one or more of your teeth are currently in need of a dental crown, you should make an appointment with a dentist to receive treatment as soon as possible. With today's dental technologies, this is easier to do than ever before. Talk to one of our dentists today about CEREC crowns and find out if they could be the right fit for you.
